Visits to the school by any interested parents are always welcomed, please contact the school office to make an appointment.
We also arrange for families to visit the school in the summer term before your child begins school, to meet other children and staff. We then visit all new reception and nursery children at home, before school starts in the autumn. This gives the child a positive way to meet their new teachers in their home environment. The nursery staff will share with you our aims, routines; answer any questions you may have concerning this start to school.
Applying for a Nursery Place
Children may be admitted to The Alton Nursery the term after they have turned 3 years old. Full time places are offered to all children for 30 hours per week 9am to 3:30pm . Parents who qualify for the 30 hours free childcare must register with the government for this service. Please note that children who are currently in The Alton’s Nursery are not guaranteed a place in our Reception. In line with local authority procedures, a separate application for Reception has to be made.
Applying for a reception place for September 2018
The application process for primary school reception places for September 2018 has now closed. Applications were due by 15th January 2018.
If you applied online you will be emailed the outcome of your application on the evening of 16 April 2018. If you applied on a paper form, you will be sent an outcome letter by first class mail on 16 April 2018.
Applying for a reception place for September 2019
If your child was born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015, you will be eligible to apply for a primary school reception year place for September 2019. The application process is not open yet.
The Alton follows the agreed Wandsworth Borough Council procedures for school admissions, and applications should be made directly to the council. Information on admissions is available on the council website. Forms may be submitted online via the website, or by sending a paper application form.
If you live outside of Wandsworth, you should apply through your home borough.
Applying for an in-year place in Reception to Year 6
Children are admitted to school during the year as long as the class has vacancies, following the agreed Wandsworth procedures for admission. We expect a visit to The Alton School and a meeting with the Headteacher. If your child has Special Education Needs or English as a second language it is be important for us to share information so that we can prepare together for a positive start to school.

IF YOU ARE UNSUCCESSFUL IN GAINING A PLACE AT THE ALTON SCHOOL , YOU HAVE A LEGAL RIGHT TO APPEAL THIS DECISION.
AS AN ACADEMY THE ALTON SCHOOL IS ITS OWN ADMISSIONS AUTHORITY. HOWEVER, ADMISSIONS TO THE ALTON ARE STILL PROCESSED BY WANDSWORTH COUNCIL’S PUPIL SERVICES SECTION.
THE EDUCATIONAL APPEALS SERVICE IS AN ORGANISATION THAT RUNS INDEPENDENTLY OF ALL LOCAL SCHOOLS AND THE COUNCIL.
Timetable for admissions appeals
Appeal forms to be completed and returned to the Appeals Service no later than 20 school days following notification of the decision that an application has been unsuccessful.. Appeals lodged after these dates will be heard within 40 school days of the appeal deadline or 30 school days of being lodged, whichever is the later date.
Appellants will be sent a letter by the Appeals Service notifying them of their hearing date no later than ten school days in advance of their appeal hearing.
The admission authority, The Alton School, will be expected to supply its evidence to the Appeals Service at least ten working days prior to the hearing.
The Appeals Service will send the appeals papers to parents, the appeal panel, etc. seven working days in advance of the hearing date.
Appellants will be asked to submit any additional evidence relating to their appeal by no later than five working days prior to the hearing. The Appeals Service will circulate without delay any additional information received to all parties to the hearing.
